A review

Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming by Robert Zelazny & Robert Sheckley

329 pages. Published by Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group Ltd. in 1992.

Fantasy – Humor – Science Fiction

Synopsis:

A riotous new fantasy series that will challenge the funniest the field has to offer–from the creator of the bestselling Amber series and one of the genre’s legendary humorists. Azzy Elbub, demon, has his sights set on the Millenial Evil Deeds Award, given to the being whose acts do the most toward reshaping the world. But his evil plans go far astray. . . .

My thoughts:

Okay, so this is one of those books that I bought because of the title (and the author). I knew nothing about it, didn’t care, I liked the title (and one of the authors’ other books).

This is a good versus evil story where they are competing via a large event/object to see which side will rule over the population for the next millennium.

Good is building the first gothic cathedral and evil is reenacting the sleeping beauty fairy tale with the hope/plan that it will end up more like Romeo & Juliette or the Grimm version of the fairy tale instead of the Disney version as they manipulate the narrative.

In this book we are following the evil side of events; the view point of the demon that comes up with the idea, making the participants and the scenes needed, and following the whole crew through to the conclusion.

It was fun and definitely a different take on the well known fairy tale. I would recommend it for those that like fantasy and fairy tale reimaginings.

My rating: 3.75⭐️
